| Panthungee Wangmada |
The young and much talented director skillfully utilized the talents in Manipuri cinema with his directorial film, “Panthungee Wangmada”. It was a huge success for the new film maker.
Story revolves between the relationship of Linthoi (played by Bala) and her father Dhanne who stays at Imphal . Dhanne was compelled to have a second marriage in Cachar village. He got a daughter with his second wife. Dhanne returns to his hometown. After few months, he returned to Cachar in search of the lost family. They could not be found and he had to come back along. At Imphal, Dhanne had a son from his first wife. Linthoi was living with her grandmother when her mother died. The grandmother used to tell her stories of his father who stays at Imphal. Unfortunately, Linthoi discovered that she was having a blood cancer. Linthoi came to Imphal in search of her father once before she died. She stays at her father’s home. However, she was an unwelcome guest there. Linthoi was not accepted by the other family members. Her health deteriorates further and she now wishes to return to her village. In due course, her step brother’s friend, Yaiphaba (played by Arun) entered her life. They came to know each other, and there’s a soft feelings between them.
Linthoi’s illness comes between them and they never expressed their feelings. Unable to bear the pain and the longing to see her grandmother, Linthoi silently came out from her father’s home. Reaching Cachar, her health became worst and she was waiting for her last moment. Yaiphaba followed her till Cachar to see his love at hospital. Dhanne also came to meet his daughter. It was a sorrowful ending, Linthoi went from their life, forever, searching for someone, somewhere.
The story was well written and the camera angle, editing and visual effects could be seen clearly in the film. The songs were hummable and Jeetenkumar Naorem has composed a unique music which promotes the indigenous music of the region, which is a new addition in Manipuri film. Cinematographer, Radhamohan does an excellent job by bringing the beautiful locations of Cachar and its adjoining places.
Some drawbacks of the film can also be seen in terms of makeup where the artists have been made like some drama, reality was not seen in the make-up. The out of context situation like mother sleeping in full make up spoilt the sorrowful sequence in the story. The special appearance of Abenao seems like some Bollywood movies.
Afterall, it was a good movie worth to watch and lot of expectation are from Yoimayai and his team who will give the meaning of Manipuri cinema in a new tastes.
There’s someone, somewhere … waiting for you!
